Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Racey Role On The Client List

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Jennifer Love Hewitt? For me it would be sweet, nice and pretty. That’s why I was a little bit shocked after watching the first episode of the new show she’s starring in called The Client List.

The Client ListStatus: New SeriesGenre: Drama, FamilyRate: 5.3/10Original Airing: 8 April 2012 - presentRegion: USALanguage: EnglishSubtitle: EnglishSeason 1(Ongoing)Synopsis:Based on the network's hit 2010 original movie, "The Client List" will launch on Lifetime in 2012 with 10 episodes. In addition, the network has entered into a first look development deal for both series and movies with Hewitt's production company Fedora Films, it was announced today by Nancy Dubuc, President and General Manager of Lifetime Networks. Hewitt's deal also includes her directing a future movie for the network. "The Client List" is about a Texas housewife (Hewitt), who, after being deserted by her husband, is left in deep financial straits and takes a job at a seemingly traditional day spa in a neighboring town. When she realizes massages aren't the only services on the menu, she quickly grabs the opportunity to relieve her financial hardships by partnering with the parlor's feisty and disorganized owner to run the business. The series will follow her as she delicately balances two starkly different lives -- one as a single mom in a conservative town struggling to provide for her family and the other as a savvy and ambitious businesswoman working with a rowdy, sexy and unpredictable group of women.
The Client List starts off very innocently. Jennifer plays a down home country girl named Riley with two children and a husband who’s down on his luck and jobless accepting disability checks that don’t cover their mortgage. Riley is forced to look for work and having experience as a massage therapist takes her friends advice and applies at a day spa and soon realizes that although they do take clients that only want massages the big bucks are made by the girls that provide a happy ending. Riley comes home after work and finds her husband has cleared out his stuff and left her high and dry with a house she can’t afford. Riley becomes desperate and starts becoming a classy prostitute.

I have very mixed feelings about this show. I think this show glorifies prostitution and they didn’t even do a good job showing what a real prostitute goes through every day. When she’s accepting clients that only want massages they show hairy backs and balding fat men. Then when she decides to accept clients that want the happy ending they show gorgeous glistening men with six packs who look like underwear models. I always thought the men who paid for sex couldn’t get it elsewhere for free or they had weird fetishes that any normal girl would be crazy to act out

Originally The Client List was a mini series on Lifetime and was brought back as a TV series by popular demand however not everyone was happy about this show being on television. The Client List was the subject of a nationwide campaign by Licensed Massage Therapists to stop the show in its tracks before it aired. The group is named Massage Therapists Against The Client List. It seems they don’t like how the show suggests that massage therapists provide the happy ending although many people joke about or believe that there are some out there that do. They have gathered signatures, 2,571 of them, to pull the show off the air.

“The Client List is a series that perpetuates the misconception that Massage Therapy includes inappropriate sexual contact. Massage Therapists are trained healthcare professionals and in most states are licensed and regulated by state medical boards. They adhere to a code of ethics and in some cases are under higher ethical standards than other healthcare professionals – because of these very same misconceptions. Many therapists are now working in doctor’s offices and hospitals and providing valuable therapeutic services. ‘The Client List’ is a huge step backwards.”

If you would like to watch this show and see for yourself what all the fuss is about it airs on Sunday nights on Lifetime at 10pm.
